In this episode, Michael Doyle and Michael Laine discuss Doyle's foray into the space industry, his move to Seattle and eventually leading Space Northwest. Michael Doyle also tells us about taking a class under Carl Sagan while at university! Michael Doyle became more involved through a NASA Space Apps hackathon that he participated with his daughter and their project even went onto the national competition. Michael Doyle also told us of two upcoming projects, NASA Data Hackers and State of the Space Industrial Base conference in April. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Doyle is cofounder and president of Space Northwest, a non-profit dedicated to realizing the potential of the Pacific Northwest for humanity's future in space. Space Northwest is focused on the future of humanity in space - emerging from the synergies of the Pacific Northwest. Space Northwest seeks to build upon the rich legacy of the Pacific Northwest’s more than 60-year space economy through innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship and build bridges to innovative careers for all. Fascinated with space as a child, Mike studied under Carl Sagan as an undergrad and spent time in media and software after graduation. He has over 20 years of experience developing software at companies such as Goldman Sachs and Amazon. His interest in space rekindled after attending NASA's International Space Apps Challenge hackathon in 2015 and he has been part of the Space Apps movement ever since. He has run prize-winning hackathon teams and began organizing Space Apps for the Seattle community in 2018. He organized Seattle's first Techstars Startup Weekend devoted to the space vertical.
